VMM Error while seting NTFS permissions on a SOFS Share

$

Hello,

I get the errors 2912 and 26272 while registering a file share created by VMM on a sofs 2 node cluster.

Share Permissions are set correctly by VMM, but for VMM it is obviously not possible to set ntfs permission.

I run SCVMM 2012 R2 UR3 on a 2012 R2 Server. The sofs cluster is running on 2 2012R2 Servers. The Hyper V Servers are one Hyper-V Server 2012 (the free one) and I get the same errors on a Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (the free one) 2 node Cluster.

Both Cluster (SOFS and Hyper-V) were created manually with the Failover Cluster Manager.

Hope someone cangive me a hintwhere the problemis coming from.

Thanks in advance

Sebastian

Issue with network

We are facing some issues configuring System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2. We are implementing Citrix XenDesktop for desktop virtualization. We have 3 HP DL380 G8 Server with 4 NICs/Server and Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition. We want to configure 3 NIC from each server to be teamed from SCVMM and trunked from network side such that they get IP Address from 2 different VLANs. We have 192.168.7.X range for server and 192.168.37.X range for desktop. We need to configure SCVMM cluster for high availability but are facing some issue with network. Any help would be helpful.

Failover Hyper V

Hi all,

I have a lab like this:
- 1 physical hyper v 2012 r2
- installed 2 sofs ( win2k12 2r) in cluster
- installed 2 hyper v (win2k12 2r)  in cluster
- installed 1 dc and added all servers to it
- installed sccm vmm on the dc ( remember, just for lab )
- installed 1 win2k12 r2 with iscsi disk

Connected the iscsi disk to the SOFS
created a share
added the share to sccm vmm
create a VM in off state

Well.. I know it is not possible to start a vm on a virtualised hypervisor but you can create a vm in the virtualised hypervisor. When i shutdown the host I did expect the vm to failover. However it didn't. After some thinking I thought it could have to do with some services not started/starting as this can't be done on the virtualised hypervisors.

2 questions:
- is my assumption correct, can't it failover as the services can't be started on the virtualised hypervisor
- Will it work if I added 2 physical servers to the cluser and do the same thing or doesn't an offline vm not failover?

Many thanks

Andre

Refresh cluster takes over an hour to comlete

I have a 3 node hyper-v host cluster running. Clustering functions work as expected and scvmm is working as well. The only problem I have is that the refresh cluster job (either scheduled or manual) takes over an hour to complete.

I found http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2010/02/25/fix-the-refresh-host-cluster-job-takes-a-long-time-to-complete.aspx but this relates to scvmm 2008, I'm wondering if there is a similar fix for 2012 r2, I've looked but I can't find anything.

Build (or not) cluster with VMM

Dear Forum members,

We are planning to implement Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 in order to install Cisco virtual switch under it. My question would be that can I simply import my existing 4-node Hyper-V cluster into VMM, or I have to delete and re-create it from VMM New Cluster wizard? If both is supported, what is different with them and which is better in your opinion?

Thank you really much,

Best Regards,

Chris

Read-SCVMHostCluster command takes over 3 hours to return

Hi all,

SCVMM 2012 R2 environment with server 2012 R2 hyperV 2-node clusters in multiple locations.

2 locations have an issue where initiating a refresh of a cluster (which runs the read-scvmhostcluster powershell command) takes over 3 hours to return. it does complete successfully.

If I run the command manually I get the same issue.

Cluster validation tests run fine, System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Analyzer suggests all is ok, event logs on VMM and the destination nodes suggest all is ok too.

Anyone got some suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further ?

Migrate VMs with parent disk

Hey all,

Quick question. I have ~100 VMs that were created in Azure Pack as VM Roles. These VMs are created using differencing disks for a quick deployment [by design]. However I would like to migrate these VMs to a new host cluster but am getting blocked by this error:

I know the files are at the destination with the same file names:

Is there something I am missing?

NLB using multiple VIP templates on the same NIC

I am trying to set up a web service tier using Microsoft's NLB.  I need to load balance across both port 80 and 443.  I created a VIP template for each port, then added both to the same NIC\VM Network in the service template.  Everything validates correctly, but when I deploy the service, only one port rule is created in the cluster and one server doesn't have a valid IP address and isn't added to the NLB cluster.  I can create two NICs for the same tier and a load balancer for each NIC to accomplish the same thing.  This doesn't seem like the correct solution though.

not all of the host cluster nodes are marked as possible owners for the vms on this cluster

I get this message in a cluster's properties after having replaced nodes' hardware (but keeping the same names). I noticed that some of the VMs in their settings have all the nodes but one checked as Possible Owners.

What is a quick (PowerShell) way to find these VMs and check all the nodes as Possible Owners?  I see this page (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj628161.aspx) as how to do it in the GUI, but I want to do it with a script.  I haven't yet found a VMM cmdlet that sets the Possible Owners of a VM.

VMs showing up as Incomplete VM Configuration Error 2912

We have multiple VM's on multiple hosts and clusters showing up with the following error:

Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the <FQDN of Host> server: NO_PARAM: NO_PARAM.

The requested resource is in use (0x800700AA)

Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server <FQDN of Host>. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If <FQDN of Host> is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742275 for more details.

Once you move a VM from a node with the issue to a different node and refresh it is fine.  We have recently rebuild some of the clusters.

SCVMM 2012 R2: Unsupported Cluster Configuration

$

Hello,

we built our environment according to the IaaS Product Line Architecture Deployment Guide 2014 v3.

  1. First we made a fileserver cluster with 2 JBODs using MPIO and SOFS.
  2. We created a SMB 3 for Applications fileshare on SOFS.
  3. We made a Hyper-V Cluster for management, there is installed: VMMCluster (two VMM Server), Windows Azure Pack and so on...
  4. We added our fileserver cluster as Storage Provider in VMM.
  5. Then we created a Storage Classification and assigned it to the Storage Pool and the share, the share is managed by VMM.
  6. Then we added two domain joined Hyper-V servers to the VMMCluster and clustered them using VMM.
  7. Next we added the Storage to the Hyper-V servers.

We are trying to create VMs (VM Role) in a cloud with Azure Pack, they should be stored on the share.

It's working so far (VM Files on SOFS, failover, management by azure, ...)

But after a while the vm's status changes to "Unsupported Cluster Configuration"!

The VM Status Error is:

Error (13924)
The highly available virtual machine (3Computer002) is not supported by VMM because the virtual machine uses non-clustered storage.

Recommended Action
Ensure that all of the files and pass-through disks belonging to the virtual machine reside on highly available storage.

We are only using FQDNs.

Have anyone any ideas concerning this problem?

Thanks!

I have a previously joined cluster host - eusaavh0106D and evict the cluster for some troubleshooting reason.  Now i rejoin the host eusaavh0106D and eusaavh0106E into cluster and surprisingly the node D is not detected.   i have reboot the host, reboot the SCVMM but problem persists.

I have uninstall the scvmm service from host D and also no helping.

Any idea?

Unable to Assign static IP Pool when creating the 1e Hyper-v cluster in VMM2012R2.

Hi,

I'm still a bit of a newbe with VMM2012R but tried to follow several online examples.

I want to create my 1e Hyper-v Cluster in VMM2012r2 because I want to create a CSV for a HA solution.

I have a separate VLAN, Logical network and IP Pool for CSV, LM, MAN, SAN

I Have a separate Logical Network and IP pool for the Logical Network with no Isolation for theVM's

I have added my SAN storage to VMM2012R2 using the SMI-S provider and all Hyper-v hosts are conected to it using iScSi.

When I create the cluster with the cluster wizard I'm unable to select a static Ip pool or enter a IP adres for the new cluster.

I'm able to select the SAN disk I want to use for the cluster.

There's also nothing visable under Logical Network. Nothing to select and nothing to add.

When I finish the Cluster Wizard it says "Network config of hosts to be clusterd requires at least one static IP to create the cluster" Which is obvious.

Can someone help me please with this?

Regards,

Jeroen

We Have Three Hyper-V Host with Shared Cluster.

Hyper-V Host 1= CS1

Hyper-V Host 2 = CS2

Hyper-V Host 3 = CS3

I am successful able to live migrate VM’s from CS1 to CS2 and CS2 to CS1 but unable to live migrate CS1 & CS2 to CS3

Following Error is Recorded at cluster Manager

Event id : 1205

Cluster resource 'Virtual Machine CS-FileServer' of type 'Virtual Machine' in clustered role 'CS-FileServer' failed. The error code was '0x2' ('The system cannot find the file specified.').

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Live Migration fails when migrating VM's between two clusters

$

I am having a problem that I can't seem to solve. I am attempting to perform a VM live migration between two clusters. When I attempt to do I get the following error:

Error (12704)
Unable to connect to the Hyper-V service on the server node1.
Recommended Action
Ensure that the Hyper-V services (vmms, nvspwmi, or vhdsv) and the Virtual Machine Manager Agent are installed and running on the server node1.

All nodes in both clusters are running Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter.

I have done the following:

1. Made sure all host were setup for Kereberos constrained delegation. I made sure CIFS service and the Microsoft Virtual System Migration Service were selected for all destination host

2. I checked the Hyper-V services on all the nodes on the destination cluster (cluster_2) and they were all running

3. Disabled Windows firewall on all nodes on cluster_1 and all nodes on cluster_2

4. Tested that I am able to Live migrate VM's between nodes on each cluster

5. I am able to perform a Live Migration from Cluster_2 to Cluster_1 but not the other way around.

The difference between the two clusters is that the Cluster_1 was created using Cluster Failover Manager while Cluster_2 was created within SCVMM and all nodes in Cluster_2 are running Windows Core. Not sure if that has any bearing but that is the only thing different from the two clusters. Both clusters are in the same domain and are seeing the same networks. I have been working this for a few days so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Renaming Hyper-V Failover Cluster

Hi,

I have a requirement to rename a Hyper-V Failover Cluster which is already being managed by SCVMM.

Has anyone done this before?
If I rename the cluster name in failover cluster manager will SCVMM just refresh and display the new name or is it likely to cause any issues?

Thanks in advance.

Add a Hyper-V host encountering an Error(2912)

I am trying to add a hyper-V host to my resources Pool,But it's encountering an error during installation scvmm agent.

Here is error details:

Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the CNLHost01v.mydomain.com server: : .

WinRM: URL: [http://CNLHost01v.mydomain.com:5985], Verb: [GET], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/scvmm/ErrorInfo?ID=1038]

No mapping between account names and security IDs was done (0x80070534)

Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server CNLHost01v.mydomain.com. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If CNLHost01v.mydomain.com is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed and running.

What i did before, rename my domain account from "mydomain\vmm" to "mydomain\s-vmm" (I use this account to start SCVMM Services and SQL Server services)

I was trying to use another different account , still get same error.  and re-run sysprep to create a new SID, it doesn't work either.

BTW: firewall is disabled, all the accounts with high privilege.

Any Ideas about it? It makes me crazy.  :(
