Remove one of cluster host from VMM console, but not remove cluster member

Hi Team,

I had an issue. I have 4 Hyper-V Cluster. and I have VMM 2012 to manage it.

suddenly my one of cluster node become bluescreen and I have to fresh install that server ( HV01 ). before it, I evict cluster node from Failover Cluster Manager console not from VMM. after the OS finish, I join the node with the same name and IP into my cluster via failover Cluster manager console.

When I Check SCVMM console, I see the HV01, become failed and show "need attention". In my Opinion, VMM cluster canot update the status of cluster. I try to install host agent from VMM into HV01, with "windows Server trusted domain" menu but error show like this.

after that I try to add host from menu "untrusted active directory domain". but it show all cluster member when I put FQDN of HV01.

Is there any issue at my cluster when I perform this step? because I have very important VM at my cluster :). If this step still get the same error, is there any other way?

please Help Team :)

Regards

Unsupported Cluster configuration.

Hi

Im getting below error on refershing the host cluster I get below error . I have 2 hosts in the cluster and VMs report unsupported cluster configuration. SCVMM 2012 SP1 dont seem to see the Logical Switches . Although Upon restarting WMI Services on the host seem to fix the issue but after couple of weeks time I get the same error again. Upon doing some research I suspect when NIC Team moves the VNICs around and SCVMM agent doesnt get the latest information and therefore shows this error .

Solutions I have applied so for and get no joy are below

1. No snapshots are saved

2. No ISO files are mounted

3. VSS service set to manual

4. Host switches have same name

5. all VHD files are stored on CSV Volumes.

6. Set one NIC in team as standby because MAC Address of the host management network  is same as physical address as I have inherited the settings while creating logical networks.

Can Anyone please help

after host crash - cluster no longer working correctly in SCVMM 2012

Hi

one of our nodes in our cluster crashed. It came back. All the VMs on this host were running on other hosts so failover worked fine BUT for 2 VMs. One of those 2 VMs is - according to VMM - running on the crashed host. The other VM is - according to VMM - running on another host node which did not fail.

I have a lot of job errors saying that VMM library object virtuals disk is missing of those two VMs. So I looked into the FailoverManager. There I was able to see that the VMs are running on totaly different host nodes then what VMM tells me. In addition those VMs work just fine. I connected to both of them over Hpyer-V and they are just fine and the application also work without a problem. Please not those VMs are not shown twice or missing in VMM.

Live Migration to the Host node that crashed is no longer possible. But when looking into the status on VMM - it tells me that everything is fine. From Hpyer-V Manager I am able to do live migration to this host. But no longer from VMM console.

I rebooted the host node with no change. I refreshed the host nodes (all) in FailoverManager and in SCVMM, I refreshed the cluster... nothing. So I wanted to remove the cluster from SCVMM and re-add it. Doesn't work... It started with the first host and after that my cluster was somewhat broken (I thought that removing cluster - NOT "uncluster" - wouldn't have an effect on the cluster itself - well I was wrong). Anyway I repaired the cluster it is back into VMM but I still have the issues with the VMs. There are only warning on the VMM server that the library object (vhd) is missing but on the cluster nodes itself there are no errors.

Any ideas what I could do. I have no clue what to do about the VM which is supposed to be on this host but in FailoverManager it is on a totally different server. Any ideas?

Not able to clone a VM with a shared hard drive

I'm in the process of cloning some of my production servers into a test environment. I'm hung up on a SQL 2014 cluster of 2 servers. The Hosts are running Windows Server 2012 R2. The Guests are also Windows Server 2012 R2. The guests are using the new option to share a VHDX by going to the Settings of the virtual machine, then clicking Advanced features, then "Enable Virtual Hard Disk Sharing". I'm at a loss about how to get a copy of these two VMs into my test environment. I right click on either node from System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 then choose Create --> Clone. However "Clone" is greyed out. I have also tried to export the VM from the Hyper-V management console but I get a failure with "General access error denied". I'm pretty sure that is because of the shared VHDX files. I have also tried the process with one of the nodes turned off with the same results. Turning both nodes off at the same time is not an option. Anyone have any ideas?

CSV has entered paused state because of c0000435

Hi,

I have a two node cluster on Windows server 2012 R2, am continuously getting the below alerts which results in the CSV to go to paused state and come back automatically online after 2 to 3 mins. I read few articles which says the apply of the fix KB2975719 will fix the problem but the fix is not available for download anywhere and also I didn't find any reason why the error occurs. Can someone please help to find out the issue and the fix?

Am using IBM storage and connected the LUN via fiber channel.

Thanks,

Ravi

SCVMM created VMs not displayed in Failover Cluster Manager

I have a 2012 Hyper-V failover cluster setup and recently added SCVMM 2012 SP1 to the mix so I could perform some P2V migrations and familiarize myself with its other many capabilities. I noticed that if I create a VM inside SCVMM it doesn't show up in the FCM UI with the other VMs I created from FCM. VMs that you create in FCM do get picked up by SCVMM however. Is this by design?

Thanks,

Greg

Newly created VMs will not migrate to other hosts in the cluster

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster managed using SCVMM 2012R2.

I have several VM's that I have moved over from 2012 servers that work perfectly fine. I can migrate them from host to host without a problem.

I have 2 VMs that I created new within the new cluster. They will not migrate between hosts. The only difference I can see between the new and the old VMs is that the new VMs have a Self-Service Owner. This owner is an administrator role.

The error I am getting is below.

Error (12700)

Error Invalid Class in Cluster report when creating Hyper-V Cluster

Hi

I've some trouble creating a Hyper-V Cluster in SCVMM 2012 SP1. I get the following error in the Cluster report:

List Information about servers running Hyper-V
Description: List Hyper-V related information on each specified node.
Gathering inventory data for servers running Hyper-V
Error message: An error occurred while executing the test. Invalid Class.

The setup is as follows:

- SCVMM Server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with SCVMM 2012 SP1
- Two Hyper-V hosts running in VmWare Workstation that run Windows Server 2008 R2.
- SAN running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter which is used as a ISCSI SAN for SCVMM and the two Hyper-V Hosts.
- SQL server running Windows server 2012 R2 and SQL Server running SQL Server 2012.

I'm running this version of VMM because i'm studying for the 70-247 exam.

When I run the Cluster wizard on one of the hyper-v hosts, I get no validation error.

Hope to get some hints and help to what might cause this error message.

Kind Regards
Hans Chr. Andersen

Hi Team,

i have strange situation, i had cluster enviroment on my Hyper-V 4 node host. i also have same cluster at VMM 2012 SP1 console

someday, i had to move all my virtual machine from host3 to host2. at hyper-v, host 3 no VM running

but, if I check the VMM console, host 3 still have VM running. if I check the properties of the VM, the VMM concosle become hung

is there any solution to solve this issue? without affecting the real cluster ( at Hyper-V ) :)

thanks before

Error deploying Service Template in SCVMM 2012 R2

I'm deploying a Service Template based on Server 2008 R2 SP1.

The whole process (however time consuming) seems to go well, but in the end it fails with the following error:

Error (22658)
VMM guest agent encountered an internal error and cannot proceed.

Recommended Action
Check the guest agent state and then retry the operation.

I've checked the eventlog but there are no errors that point in this direction. Also the VMM Guest service is installed and running.
I also checked the logfile: C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Virtual Machine Manager Guest Agent R2\bin\Diagnostics\VmmGuestLog.svclog

Microsoft.VirtualManager.GuestAgent.Common.GuestAgentException: Error in the application

Error (22658)

Create cluster fails after validation tests passed - no useful errors!

Hi all,

I'm building a lab environment for my MCSE Private Cloud studies but i'm having real problems getting the Hyper-V cluster built,

My cluster passes all validation tests, but as soon as I try to create the cluster, it fails with the following error:

Error (25325)
The cluster creation failed because of the following error: An error occurred while performing the operation..

Recommended Action
Please refer to cluster documentation for resolving cluster problems.

Information (25353)
Cluster validation report is located at \\hv1.mcse.local\admin$\cluster\reports\Validation Report 2014.10.05 At 00.30.55.xml.mht

Recommended Action

I can't find any useful logs that help me with this, does anyone know if the reason for the failure is logged anywhere? The Validation Report doesn't show any errors and the message "An error occurred while perform the operation" doesn't help me at all?!

I found a few threads when googling about disabling AV and firewall blocking ... windows firewall is disabled on all the machines and there's no AV installed

Thanks in advance

Hyper-V Manager .iso won't mount

All of the sudden I am receiving this error when I insert a disk into Hyper-V server. I then go to the Hyper-V Manager and then one of the VM's that I created. I select Media>DVD Drive>Insert Disk.  I burned the disk using magic.iso.

Failed to add device 'Virtual CD/DVD Disk.'

Attachment 'D:\files.iso' is read only. Please provide read/write access to add the attachment. Error: 'General access denied error'.

VM's status is missing on one node but is up and running on another node (SCVMM 2008 R2)

Hi!

We had a server (node) not responding, we first tried to migrate the VM's from this node to another. When it timed out, we had to reset the power of the server and another node started up the vm's.

Now to the real problem, in VMM 2008 R2 the migrated vm's are started on one node, and are reported missing on the original node (the one owning the vm prior to the reset). If I look in hyper-v manager there is no vm's on the original node. And if I look in Cluster Manager everything looks fine.

So how can I ged rid of the orphaned vm's? They are there but I cannot do anything.. There is a repair option, but all options are greyed out. There is a "Delete" option, but that one deleted the config of the vm (it warns that the vm-file is already in user by another VM).

Any suggestions?

Alexander

2012 R2 Cluster and Live Migration

6 Node Cluster with Server 2012 R2, all VM's are Server 2012 R2

4 Fiber SAN's

Moving and Live Migration worked fine in FailOver Cluster Manager

But this time we were trying do it with SCVMM 2012 R2 and just move one VM (Gen2)

Of course it failed at 99%

Error (12711)
VMM cannot complete the WMI operation on the server (whatever) because of an error: [MSCluster_Resource.Name="SCVMM VMHost"] The cluster resource could not be found.

The cluster resource could not be found (0x138F)

Recommended Action
Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.

How do I fix this? the VM is still running. The two vhdx files it was moving are smaller then orginal's , but it change the configuration file to point to new ones, which are bad.

it says I can Repair it... Redo or Undo....of course neither of those options work.

Wait for the object to be updated automatically by the next periodic Live migrate storage of virtual machine vmhost from whatever to whatever job.

Cluster has no errors, SAN's have no errors, CSV have no errors. the machine running scvmm is VM running on the cluster

Cluster Setting need to be change (Committed Resources setting)

Hi,

1). Could any one tell me that how we can change the committed resources allocation to an particular Cluster and is there any downtime is required in that or not.

2). Is there any downtime is required if we add new host to any cluster.

Thanks

SCVMM 2012 R2 RU3 - Live storage migration failing with error 12711 if cluster resource name is not in form of "SCVMM "

At the end of live storage migration in SCVMM 2012 R2 RU3 getting error:

Error (12711)
VMM cannot complete the WMI operation on the server (hypervhost1.domain.local) because of an error: [MSCluster_Resource.Name="SCVMM test-vm"] The cluster resource could not be found.

The cluster resource could not be found (0x138F)

Recommended Action
Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.

Storage migration actually succeeds and after Repair/Ignore and Refresh, the VM shows up ok in VMM, with the VHD in new location.
If VM is offline, storage migration always succeeds. Live (non-storage) migration always succeeds.
I noticed in the error message that it searches for cluster resource name "SCVMM test-vm" and for some VMs I've got different cluster resource names.
Like for this VM cluster resource names are:

Virtual Machine test-vm
Virtual Machine Configuration test-vm

Furthermore, those resource names are showing up correctly in [VirtualManagerDB].[dbo].[tbl_WLC_VMInstance] table, columns VMResource and VMConfigResource.

Anyone knows why SCVMM keeps searching for "SCVMM test-vm" and how to fix this without recreating cluster resources?

VM Migrated to new cluster - Old VM remains in Incomplete Configuration

$

This is on SCVMM 2012. I have successfully migrated a VM to a new cluster. If you look in HyperV Manager the VM has gone from the old hypervisor and exists on the new Hypervisor. In Failover Cluster Manager the VM is on the correct node. But, in SCVMM the VM appears on the old node with an Incomplete VM Configuration and also appears on the new node correctly. If I select the VM on the old node and delete, it disappears and so does the VM on the new node (although it reappears after refreshing).

How can I remove the Incomplete VM Configuration on the old node?

Source vhd(x) is kept after storage migration on csv volumes

Hi,

every time I make a storage migration (with VMM and/or Cluster Manager) the source vhd/x files are kept. The vm configuration is deleted on source.

Is this by design? If not, is this a known issue with a solution?

Thanks.

CSV storage classified as local in SCVMM

$

Hello

I have posted a similar question recently , decided to start over with more details :

Our scenario :
4-Nodes Hyper-V Cluster using SaS Storage over Microsoft storage pool ( yes - latest R2 technology!)
Storage has 4 CSV volumes wih each node being co-coordinator node of a LUN . (Standard setup)
Cluster was formed first using Microsoft Failover Cluster service and not through SCVMM - no errors.
Hyper-V cluster was then added to SCVMM successfully ,maintenance mode, HA and live migration is fine.

issue :

when we get properties of HVCluster node within SCVMM ; under storage > shared Volumes ; one of the volumes is marked as "Local Storage" where it supposed to be "remote storage".
Volume is accessible through cluster ; the only issue is that if we try to clone a VM on this volume ; SCVMM fails to calculate star rating for hosts and fails to clone . other cluster functions are fine. I've been looking EVERYWHERE to
change this classification but I cannot find it . there is no storage classifications defined under Fabric settings.
