Hyper-V Failover Cluster - iSCSI Size requirement

$

I was trying to find more CLEAR and CONCISE information about iSCSI requirements for Hyper-V Failover Cluster

I am not sure if the purpose of the iSCISI is simple for the quorum to manage the actually failover between (in my case) two nodes? or is this where the VMs are stored between the two nodes.

My build is as follow

2x Dell Poweredge with two, 2TB RAID1 (C and D)

QNAP hosting the iSCISI LUNs.

We have a four node Hyper-V Failover Cluster running Windows Server 2012 R2 connected to StoreVirtual SAN storage. After importing the Cluster into SCVMM all four nodes are filling the event logs with the following two errors. This is causing higher than normal compute but everything else appears to be working as it should. Any advice or pointers as to what could be causing these errors would be much appreciated.

Cannot Manage Hyper-V 2012 Host Cluster in which the HA-VMM is running on

$

We have a two-node Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster with shared storage over Microsoft iSCSI Software on a Windows Server 2012 File Server. Reading the following blog post and Technet instructions led me to believe that VMM 2012 SP1 could be installed as a highly available instance on the same failover cluster that it manages (sorry they're not hyper-linked, apparently my account still isn't verified):

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg610675.aspx

http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2011/03/28/scvmm-2012-creating-a-highly-available-vmm-server.aspx

To help keep things clear, here's how it's set up:

Cluster-1.hip.local (Server 2012 Failover Cluster)

HyperV-1.hip.local (Node 1 in 2012 Failover Cluster)

HyperV-2.hip.local (Node 2 in 2012 Failover Cluster)

VMMClust-1.hip.local (VMM server running on 2012 Failover Cluster; owned by Node 1)

VMM 2012 SP1 has been installed as a highly available service on both my nodes in the cluster. VMM can start up fine, and I'm connecting through the VMM service cluster name (VMMClust-1) with the console, not the name of my Server 2012 failover cluster (Cluster-1). However, when I try to add the Server 2012 failover cluster (Cluster-1) to VMM to be managed, I get the following error:

Error (25517)
CLUSTER-1.hip.local cannot be managed by Virtual Machine Manager, as managing a host cluster in which the HA-VMM is running on is not supported.

Recommended Action
Managing a host cluster which the HA-VMM is running on is not supported

So, am I incorrect in thinking that both the blog and Technet instructions are saying I can install AND manage a highly available VMM 2012 server on the same cluster that is hosting it? Or, am I missing something else? Any advice and help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Adding Hyper V cluster

Hello.

I am trying to add a hyper V cluster to Virtual Machine Manager Console. However it says that it cannot connect to the cluster with error 25300/ ID 13805.

But I have other Hyper V clusters that are successfully added.

Network/Ip address wise, the successfully added hyper V cluster and the failed cluster are both not in the same segment as the Virtual Machine Manager console.

Both successful and failed hyper V clusters are able to telnet 5985 to and fro to SCVMM.

Not sure if this is a scvmm issue or cluster issue, I wish to find out what settings that I might have missed in comparison to the two Hyper V clusters settings.

Hi

i have a problem with Live migration, i have 10 identical windows server 2012 r2, but on ehost wont allow us to migrate any clients into it.

i can only migrate into when the client is offline but the minute i power on the Client it immediatly migrates to another host and powers on.

Unable to provide Application Parameters when deploying from a template

Hi,

Recently upgraded to SCVMM 1807, We had a number of service templates to deploy guest cluster for number of services.

Since upgrade, when deploying a Service from a template it doesn't prompt me to provide clustername @ClusterName@ and Cluster IP Address @ClusterIP@ the power-shell post vm deployment is depended on these parameters to complete .

Anyone experiencing same issue ? and what has been done to resolve it.

Looking forward to hear from the community.

Thanks

VMM 2019 with server 2019 clustered hosts- live migration

I have  a SCVMM 2019 newly installed.

5 Hyper-v hosts running server 2019 og HP DL360 Gen10, all identical.

Storage is a HP MSA2052 using ISCSI

Hosts have 10Gb connection through 2 10Gb switches with MPIO.

Management network, and several vm networks are connected over 4 Gb nics i lacp

I have created several test vm's and everything works great.

Then i imported serveral VM's from an older cluster, they have different OS, generation and configuration versions. They were migrated live from a 2012R2 cluster using shared nothing live migration.

Most of the imported VM's can not be livemigrated between the new 2019 hosts using VMM. The VMs that were created on the new cluster can live migrate, and a few of the imported vms, both new and old, can live migrate but most of them can not. I can not figure out any similarities on the few that work.

Error given is:

The virtual machine (****) is not compatible with the virtualization host (*********). The virtual machine may not start or operate correctly on the host. This may be due to inconsistent processor compatibility information.

As stated earlier all new hosts are identical, and all VM's have "Allow migration to a virtual machine host with differen....) checked.

Also, if i live migrate or drain roles using FailoverCluster Manager everything works without problem.

I have tried to drain all hosts, using failovercluster manager, and reboot them, but it does not help. Live migration still fails on vmm, but works with failover cluster manager.

The virtual machine is originally on the local disk of the physical host and needs to be migrated to the shared storage. Can I use vmm to migrate the storage without stopping the virtual machine?

Host Not Responding after Patch

Hi,

My SCVMM and other servers are running on Win 2016 and after the recent patch getting Error 20552 host not responding.

Error (20552)
VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource 'C:\Windows\system32\vmms.exe' on the Host

Recommended Action
Ensure that Virtual Machine Manager has the appropriate rights to perform this action.

Also, verify that CredSSP authentication is currently enabled on the service configuration of the target computer host.com. To enable the CredSSP on the service configuration of the target computer, run the following command from an elevated command line: winrm set winrm/config/service/auth @{CredSSP="true"}

i have enabled credSSP and also winrm service is running on the host.

Any resolution for this?

Thanks,

roshan

Best Practices in Moving Hyper V- cluster to different domain

Hi experts!

Here's my question, if i just do turn off all VM's in Hyper V- Cluster  and remove their association from old cluster. how can i ensure that this is correct procedure and how can sure that after i removing from cluster i can still access all my VM's. ? Can some one give me the advise what should be the best approach on this?

For your information , Since we are decommissioning our old domain we have required to migrate those VM's  to new domain. What i'm asking this is because this is my first time to do this and i need some resources that can help me on my migration.

Thanks

(Nutanix prism) Nutanix Cluster migration to different domain

Hi Experts!

How can i manage migrating Nutanix cluster in prism console ? What we have in nutanix cluster is same with our hypervisor failover cluster. Compose of host and VM's that required for us to migrate/ move to new domain since we're decommissioning the old domain. Can some please give me the best practices and best approach on the steps on how to migrate through web console of nutanix in prism.

Scenario is not the same with MS hyper-v fail-over cluster. Moving Nutanix cluster to different domain is not easy for me. Is there any step by step procedure on how to do that ? .

SCVMM 2012 keeps crashing after adding cluster.

Hi, I been trying to configure my SCVMM 2012 to add cluster but the SCVMM services keep crashing/stop/disconnected after the cluster has been added. The SCVMM services also crashes even without any cluster(s) added but not frequently as when there is a cluster(s) added.

I have tried to reinstall the SCVMM from scratch but the error still occur.
Following methods I have performed to resolve the issue but still failed:

- Restart SCVMM host(s) server.
- Remove and re-added the cluster(s).
- Change SQL database query where I added SQL query into the database:

Now I am trying to resolve multi-path IO issue. Below is the details of the issue.

Error (1700)
The Virtual Machine Manager service on the (X) server stopped while this job was running. This may have been caused by a system restart.

Recommended Action
To restart this job, navigate to the Jobs view ard select the job in the results pane. Then in the Actions pane, click Restart.

Warning (26211)
A restart is required to complete claiming of multi-path 1/0 devices on host (X)
Recommended Action
Restart the machine.

However I am stuck at step 3:

*search on google if you want to know where I got the list @ Prevent VMM from claiming device IDs.

"3. Add the device IDs from the default list. Make sure you use the same spacing."

I need some assistance on this part. What is the device ID and where do I put it in the registry?

Regards,
JJ

Network Optimization Warning on Hosts with LACP

$

Hi.

Im in the final steps of migrating to Server 2016 on my HYper V CLuster (new cluster, not upgrade) and I noticed that the live migration in SCVMM gives me a warning for all Hosts that use LACP for NIC Teaming. Is this intended? currently 6 of 8 hosts have LACP enabled and only the other 2 have the green checkmark when attempting to migrate. Which also leads to the result that automatic optimization migrates as much as possible to the 2 nodes that currently dont have LACP enabled.

Why is it thrwoing a warning? how can I fix this. Id really like to use LACP.

Cluster Validation failed, and the remote procedure call failed when trying to list disks

I have a hyper-v cluster with three nodes. When I try to validate the cluster in SCVMM 2012 for adding one new node, it ends with the following result.

Error (25322)
Cluster validation reported that the nodes do not meet clustering requirements. Refer Validation Report 2019.08.21 (05.25.31) .xml.mht in %windir%\Cluster\Reports of any node for further information on the failure.

Recommended Action
Refer to the cluster documentation for fixing the issue reported in the error file and retry the operation.

In the report the following message also logged:
Failed to prepare storage for testing on node <hostname>: The remote procedure call failed.

Initially, this cluster had four nodes and worked well for a year, and one of them got out of order. After I removed it to exchange a new one, the cluster worked well.
The error happens when I add the new one to this cluster and check the Cluster Validation.

Additional information:
-The status appearing in the Properties of the host is 'OK'.
-Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is running
-The Name resolution is possible from AD server and SC server.
-The host has been added to SCVMM
-After the job showed the success status of Cluster Validation, it turned to the fail state soon.
-The Job step has completed after registered the logical storage unit in the host “machine name”

I couldn't find any differences between the other three nodes and this node which failed to add the cluster.
I appreciate your help because I have been struggling with this issue for several months.

Hello everyone,
I have four nodes on the cluster, and one of the nodes hasn't worked well. So, I run the node as a maintenance mode and fixed some issues. After that, I stopped the maintenance mode and I faced the error 2413 and got an exception error as bellow.

I got to know there are many 'report.text' shows the same error as OverflowException. The 'report.txt' has been creating after I added the bad node to the cluster three months ago.

Additionally, my System center has applied the Update Rollup 14.

I want to know why it's happening and the resolve way.
